Q. How far is the villa from the beach?
The closest beach is a 3 minute walk from La Récompense. With 20 beaches on the island you will find yourself driving to explore more than one.
Q. How far is the villa from the town?
La Récompense is 7 kilometers (about 20 minutes drive) from Gustavia, which is the harbor and main shopping area in St. Barth. The village of St. Jean (restaurants and shops) is about 10 minutes drive. There are also restaurants within a 5 minute drive of the villa.

A. About 10 minutes drive.
Q. Is there an Ocean view from the villa?
Yes, there is a lovely view of the Atlantic over Petit Cul de Sac.
Q. Is the villa quiet?
Yes, the villa is located in a very quiet part of the island, off of the main road so there is little traffic.
Q. Do I need a car?
Yes. In order to explore the island, go to the beaches or restaurants, you really must have a car. We offer car rentals through our villa, or we can recommend a rental agency.
Q. Can I call home from the villa?
Yes, you can use an international phone card to call from the villa. These are available at various stores around the island. Local calls are free.
Q. Are there a lot of mosquitoes?
Depending upon the season and rainfall, the mosquito population varies. Because it is an arid climate, there are far fewer than most Caribbean islands. We are agressive in our mosquito control at La Recompense.
Q. Is there a gym nearby?
The Form Fitness gym in Lurin is about 15 minutes drive.
Q. How close is the villa to the golf course?
Leave those clubs at home! There is no golf course on St. Barth. There is however a driving range a few minutes from the villa, probably not what you are used to…but great fun.
Q. Are all of the restaurants expensive?
No, there are reasonably priced places to eat on the island. Feel free to write for suggestions, or ask our manager during your stay.
Q. Do I need a coat and tie?
No! Even the best restaurants do not require a coat and tie. You would feel awkward wearing one.
Q. Can I get Internet service?
We have WiFi high speed internet at the Villa for those who bring their own laptop. Otherwise, there is internet service in Gustavia.
